Open Question: How long should I do a cardio workout for?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008I work in an office and only walk from the car to the building.
My weight has slowly crept up to 13 stones / 182lbs.
I’d like to get back down to 9 stones / 126lbs and be healthy like I used to be.
I’m not interested in fad diets, and I don’t mind how long it takes me to lose the weight as I intend on staying fit and healthy for life.
My question is:
How long should I do a cardio workout (mainly cycling on an exercise bike or using a treadmill at home) for?
I am aiming to eat around 1,500calories per day after reading that is the minimum women should have.
Any one got any other advice?
Thanks!
Open Question: 40 mins 7km, good or getting there?? getting bored of cardio :-( ?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008Ive been going gym for quite a while and i do my cardio 3 times a week and then weights in between (5 days). My run consists of:
15 mins at a gentle ish jog (speed 9 whatever that is on the treadmill), then 5 mins sprint (speed 16) then 5 mins at speed 9 again,
then 15 mins at speed 10, then a 15 min cool down.
This kills me but i want to do more, as ive got to a point where this doesnt do anything for me anymore. Ive tried going to 45 mins but i stopped at 43 mins lol i couldnt do anymore. How effective is the incline at 1 or maybe 2, what will this work specifically?
Also what does everyone else do at the gym in terms of cardio? am i doing to much cardio? im getting bored of my workout and im just doing weights this week with higher reps lower weight. I need some good workouts though so i dont get bored?
arghhhh not these stupid robot thingy me bobbies, any real answers
Resolved Question: Workouts? Please PLEASE help?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008I am a 15 year old girl weighing 120 pounds and 5feet 4inches. I have large hips, and some flab around the sides of my waste and i have a bit of a gut in my stomach.
I want to lose all of those area’s by doing workouts in my home. I have a treadmill, and workout ball at home, as well as some weights.. but don’t think weights are involved with what I want to improve on.
What are some workouts that I can do in my home, and get results fast?
Should I work out everyday? If so what time is best?
How many of each workout should I do a day (ex. 10 crunches, 30 push ups etc.)?
Please answer all the questions, and if there is any additional information you can give me or any websites I can go to, it would be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: What is the limit in terms of my heart being elevated during exercise?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008I am a 38 year old male and over the last couple of months I have lost approximately 20 lbs., primarily by being more mindful of my eating in addition to logging quite a bit of time on the treadmill. My wife has voiced concern after she noticed that during one hour long session on a treadmill, my heart rate would periodically climb to 180 bpm and then some. I explained to her that I alternate the intensity of my workout by walking at 4 mph for two minutes, followed by running at between 7 & 8 mph for two minutes, which in turn elevates my heart rate significantly. She says it is not healthy or safe for my heart rate to be elevated that high, even if it is only two minutes at a time. So I’m looking for someone knowledgeable about this sort of thing to give me an informed opinion. Am I taking a risk by exercising the way that I am? I had always heard that one of the best ways to lose weight via a treadmill was to constantly raise and lower your heart rate throughout your workout. I would really welcome an informed opinion on this matter along with perhaps a point of reference that I might go to on the internet to support whatever opinion anyone has to offer.
Open Question: How can I run more comfortably on the treadmill?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008I’ve been walking/jogging (between 4-5 mph) on the treadmill everyday for the past month and a half, and have lost a bit of weight and have been able to push myself harder each time. The past few times, I have started feeling like I have to, ahem, make bowel movements, at around 15 minutes into it. Then, I jump off and I’m not able to take care of the problem, if you know what I mean. It passes after a minute and I jump back on with no problems.
I would not stop running if it were not so uncomfortable.
I have been eating mostly whole wheats for breakfast, am usually too busy for lunch, and then sometimes I have soup or a veggie burger for dinner. I usually drink mint tea about an hour before a workout. I stretch thoroughly before and after.
Resolved Question: saliva when I’m running..?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008So this happens to me all the time. Whenever I’m running, my saliva gets really thick. This isn’t a problem if I’m running outside cause I can just spit it out and keep running. But if I’m running over a mile or so inside or on a treadmill, I have to cut my running short because my saliva gets so thick that its hard to swallow it and it feels like its gagging and choking me. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I run at the end of my workouts at the gym so I’m drinking plenty of water beforehand..
so I guess it is dehydration. I take creatine about half an hour or so before I go work out, would that be contributing to the dehydration?
Open Question: exercise routine suggestions with this equiptment?

Open Question: easy 10 pts…quick fitness questions?
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008Okay my family just got a treadmill yesterday. I usually run outside for 45 minutes at a pace around 7 MPH with hills. However, I prefer to use the treadmill so I can watch the morning news at the same time. I hate just doing a straight run on the treadmill so I have this workout done at a 1% incline the entire time:
10 minutes at 5MPH
20 seconds at 7.5 MPH
1 minute at 5 MPH
20 seconds at 7.5 MPH
1 minute at 5MPH
20 seconds at 7.5 MPH
4 minutes at 5 MPH
10 minutes at 6.5 MPH
Then three times through:
4 minutes at 5 MPH
4 minutes at 6.5 MPH
The last thing is 5 minutes at 5 MPH and I increase the incline by .5% every 30 seconds.
Will that burn as many calories as my original run?
Also, the treadmill is set to calculate calories based on a 180 pound man. I am 110 pounds and I am a female. How can I convert these?
