Open Question: what cardio is best for a bad knee?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Well I am now 16 and I have been working out for about 3 years and eating right (weight lifting and cardio, stretching, yada, yada) for cardio I get a little bored with the monotony of running and going no where, so I tried step aerobics class at my local gym, well it was great and the pounds came off, at the time my knee didn’t hurt at all. But then I had something happen in the family that was crazy and I didn’t go back to the gym for about 3 months, I just stopped working out.

Well now I’m fine but i started rebuilding my fitness about 3 months ago again and I noticed, when I started to do treadmill running alot to get my cardio health up again and shed a few pounds I gained back I noticed I was getting pain in both of my knees, it would stop hurting and then occasionally out of no where it would hurt again, and now that its getting cold again here, its getting worse, well I don’t want to damage my knees at such a young age since I am always on the move, so I stated wearing knee braces under my knees when I run and stuff, but they cut off my leg circulation and don’t help much anyways, so I ice them and elevate them each 10 minutes after I exercise.

I was told to take glucosomine and condrotin vitamens for my joints, we have some but I don’t take it..does it really work?

do you know what stretches I can do to prevent knee injuries?

what is your take on warming up before a workout..does it really help knees?

what cardio can I do that won’t hurt/put as much pressure on my knees?

how can I prevent any further knee injury?

thank you so much, any helpful answer would be a big blessing :]
i do swim alot, we have a heated pool, but unfortunetly in michigan a heated pool isn’t enough, cause this year our crazy weather patterns up here would have it so late fall feels like it has already arrived,

I guess I could swim at my ymca’s pool though
thank you all so much. BIG help!

Open Question: Workout plan for this year?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

So for the past month I’ve been working out hard. Everyday
15 Mins on the treadmill 3.0MPH
15 Mins on a exercise bike
15 Mins of cardio
And then I do between 200-500 crunched a day.
Plus swimming laps and lifting 10LBS of hand weights every once and a while.
But no weight is coming off.
So I guess my question is, Do I need to eat more?
I don’t really eat alot during the day. Only when I’m really hungry.
WTF am I doing wrong?

Open Question: How long after having a baby do your "really" have to wait to start working out? ?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I just had my 2nd daughter 3 weeks ago (I had my 1st 13yrs ago), I started working out lightly at the 2 wk mark (cardio - treadmill/elliptycal 1hr a day, everyday) but I feel as though my body is ready for a more intense workout. Before my pregnancy I worked out by warming up w/ some cardio and then doing weight machines and lots of ab training.

I’ve heard that I should wait a minimum of 6wks before I start working on my abs, but I feel that I want to start now. I feel fine physically, I’m no longer bleeding (stopped at the 2nd week) and I have plenty of energy. Anyway advice? Can someone tell me what, if any, danger there is in working out sooner?

Open Question: Combining pilates and Cardio Question?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I’ve been doing cardio for less than a week now and have already lost 3 pounds. Now i also started a 20 minute pilates routine video.
im 5′3-5′4 and 130 pounds

Here’s my workout:
Cardio - 30 min running on treadmill, jumproping 800 times, 100 situps
everyday

Also, im doing 20 minutes pilates everyday

Will this help me lose atleast 10 more pounds by the end of this month?

Also if pilates builds muscle, will i gain pounds rather than lose?

plus om on a healthy diet ;)
