Open Question: What am I doing wrong as far as burning more fat?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I have been on a diet/workout for a month now. I am 5′4″ and weighed in at 135.7 pounds one month ago. I wanted to lose some fat and tone up. I am a vegetarian and went to a strictly veggies and fruit diet (basically a vegan diet), I workout 5 to 6 days a week. I have arthritis in my knees and hips, so my work out goes as is: I speed walk either a mile or two miles uphill on a treadmill at 3.5 incline and 3.5 speed. Or I will split it up and jog a mile on a 1 incline, and speed walk the other mile on a 3.5 incline. Each workout is about 45 min to 1 hour. I work up a pretty good sweat, and I have noticed my legs have toned up slightly. I also do 4 reps of 15 sit ups each day. But as far as losing my fat (in the hips, stomach and thighs), I haven’t seen much. In one month exactly I have only lost 2.3 pounds. Today, I have a body fat % of 27.9 and BMI of 22.9% and now weigh 133.4 lbs. I would think after 1 month I would see better results. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? I did order Turbo Jam and should get that this week to try out. But generally, what can I do to burn more fat efficiently?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

This is what I do. 4 x a week on the treadmill doing up and down hills for 40 minutes. once a week walking up 32 flights of stairs. 3 times a week doing upper body lifting. Some days I do night and day splits with my upper body and threadmill I never do them at the same session . My goal is to lose the fat aorund my stomach and get muscles. Is this a good plan. I eat pretty good, I still have cheat days. What you think. Should I add something or decrease something?

Open Question: Am I working out to hard?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I have returned back at the gym after 8 weeks off! I go every day and run 11km on the treadmill around 50min! then 20 minute on the cross trainer and do light weights and 200 crunches on the gym ball! I fee so good after the workout my aim is to tone up and get a flat stomach which is at the moment is a pot belly, I do not need to lose weight 5ft4 43kg so I do this workout 4times a week is that too much? or shall I continue and what else could I do!

Open Question: New work out/weight lifting schedule. Suggestions?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

The new schedule is 6 times a week, alternating back, bi’s, and legs with chest, tri’s, and abs. But I also change reps and % lifted each week.

Week 1 - 3 sets of 10 at 60% of max weight
Week 2 - 5 reps @ 80%, 4 @ 85%, 3 @ 90%, 2 @ 95%, 1 @ 100%
Week 3 - 10 reps @ 60%, 8 reps @ 70%, 6 reps at 80%
Week 4 - 3 sets of 3 at 95% max weight

Max weight is based off of the 1 rep on week 2. I do as much as I can.

I usually stretch at home, get to gym, run for about 2 - 2.5 miles on treadmill. Go through workout routine, then run another 1.5 - 2 miles on treadmill again.

I am doing this to prepare for CHP academy, so anyone with experience with that, I would appreciate your input or tips. Thanks!

Open Question: Does walking up-hill works your glutes?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Saturday and Sunday I based my cardio on walking up-hill for 45 minutes. Now my glutes feel like they have been worked out. Usually I run/jog on the treadmill, and this was the first time I did a workout walking up-hill. Does it really work your glutes?
