Open Question: How do I train like a warrior/athlete?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I want to know what it takes to train like a world class athlete? Basically I do not want to exercise like a “regular exerciser”. I want to push my self to higher limits. Currently I am a little overweight I am 5′5 160lbs but I go to the gym 4-5 days a week sometimes 3. I basically do 30 minuet workouts on the machines and I lift a little. This seems like typical regular exercise for the regular exerciser.

I was thinking how I could actually push myself to the limits as an athlete/warrior? Like for instance recently I have been doing 20 mins on the elliptical then 20 mins on the treadmill. That doesn’t seem good enough. I am also a vegetarian but I get a good amount of calories like 1500-2000 daily. I workout 4-5 and sometimes 3 days a week.

Should I up this to 6 days a week rest seven? Go to the gym before work then after work? Also it is said doing the same exercise won’t help you lose weight but if you are running on a treadmill burning up calories how is that possible since calories are being burned? I just want to train hard and I want to run faster and longer as well like a track running athlete.

Open Question: Has anyone tried the Bowflex TREADCLIMBER?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

And do you like it? Why?
Is it better, worse, or just as good as running on the treadmill?
Do you burn as many calories / get as toned / get the same cardio-vascular workout…?
Basically overall, tell me about your experience with it.

I DON’T like running outside, & I end up never going to the gym & pay for it every month, so I’m thinking the TreadClimber might be better for me, because it’s right at home AND I can watch a show while I do it, which I think will ACTUALLY make me do it, lol.

So please, don’t suggest another workout, but just tell me about your experience with the TreadClimber if you have tried it. Thanks!

Open Question: Please tell me your experiences with diet pills or going under the knife.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Hey I’m 23 years old and I just can’t seem to lose the extra fat on my body. I run for 40-60 minutes on a treadmill six times a week and then 30-45 minutes of cardio/weights workout after running. I do all of this before eating breakfast and follow a strict 1500 calorie low-carb diet. So working out and eating right isn’t cutting it. I’ve been doing this routine for about 3 years and did something similar and sports during high school. I also do not drink alcohol, coffee, tea, pop, or juice so please do not put “eat right and exercise.” Even though I do all of this my body shape, measurement, and weight have been about the same since high school. I’ve been against pills or surgery but now I’m getting desperate. So please if there are some pills or surgery that has helped got rid of the extra fat for you or someone you know please tell me. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer my question.

Open Question: Can I break my 1 hour workout to 3-20 minutes a day?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I walk for 1 hour on my treadmill everyday. Could I break my one hour to 3-20 minutes walk? Would I be able to get the same results?

Open Question: How much cardio can you mix with weight training in a single session?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I’m about 20 pounds overweight. Do I really need to worry about “overtraining” or spacing out cardio and weightlifting? It seems like there is plenty of stored energy for my body to use.

I was trying to figure out if I should lift before or after cardio (roughly 50 minutes in my ‘cardio zone’ according to a treadmill with a palm grip heart monitor).

A lot of advice I’ve read seems to warn of overtraining - as if your muscle all of sudden starts getting eaten away if you do to much in a workout session. I always figured that the body would turn to muscle for energy as an absolute last resort, am I missing something?

Resolved Question: I threw my back - how often do I need to exercise?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

First, thanks for reading. :)
A little background story first. I’m a 28 years old woman and up until about a month ago, I have NEVER worked out/exercised in my life…on a regular basis, that is. Sure, I’ve used treadmill, went for swimming, aerobic, all of those just here and there, but not on a consistant basis, whatsoever.

And about a month ago, something struck me and I decided to dedicate myself on a regular workout from that point. Since then, I watch what I eat and exercised EVERY SINGLE DAY for about an hour - 30 mins yoga and another 20 mins elliptical machine.

After about a month of everyday workout as above, I skipped exercising for two days straight due to my busy work schedule, and boom! The next morning, I couldn’t get up; I threw my back out! It went gradually better over the course of past week and now I’m all better, but as Im about to start exercising regularily, I’m so scared of a possibility of throwing out my back again!

First and foremost, what do you guys think was a cause of this incident? Did I work out too hard everyday all of sudden after 20 something years of practically no exercise?

And secondly, how often should I exercise from this point? Every other day or so? Can I at least do light stretching/yoga everyday?

Thanks for reading a long post and your answers in advance! :)

Resolved Question: why is my weight loss happening so slowly

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I’ve cut out all junk food, soda, and alcohol. I went from only being able to exercise about 5 minutes at a time to an hour. I eat so healthy anymore…. fruits, vegetables, AT LEAST 60g of protein, 25g fiber, 1200 calories, and less than 2000mg sodium. I work out about 5-6 hours a week. I’ve been doing this for over 6 months…. Why am I only losing about 1 lb a month?

my workout is sorta like this:
Monday: weight lifting (Stomach, arms, legs) 45 mins and 1 hour on tread mill (3 20 min miles)
Tue: Stationary bike: 45 minutes at a time, 2x
Wed: Weight lifting same as monday and same on treadmill
thursday: Jogging in cemetary with a lot of hills for 90 minutes
Friday: break
sat: weight lifting and swimming anywhere from 1-5 hours
sundays- break
start again

in the past 6 months I’ve went down one size. I’m just wondering why it’s happening so slowly. :( My sister is following a similar plan and lost over 50 lbs while I only lost about 6….

been following a 1200-1500 diet very strictly

Open Question: how long will it take my body to be back in shape?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
