Resolved Question: Question about diet and fitness

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I am 16 years old, 5′6″ and 155 pounds. I am going to start exercising more and eating better.

Items at my disposal:
30lb dumbbell set
250 yard driveway to run up and down
treadmill
mini stepping thing
plenty of room for indoor or outdoor exercises

So here is what I want, I want to lose my excess stomach fat and replace it with abs and pecs, build up my arms, and establish a healthier lifestyle. Don’t have the time to join a gym. So, here was what I was thinking:

20-30 minutes of running or walking (or a combo of both)
10-15 minutes of some form of ab workout (I read that the bicycle is the most efficient)
10-15 minutes of arm workouts

If you have any suggestions on the workout portion, let me know. I don’t really know what I’m doing as far as this whole thing goes. When do you think the soonest I would see a flatter stomach/abs showing up? I don’t really have a deadline, but as soon as possible without going workout crazy would be nice.

As for the diet, I already drink a descent amount of water, but I could be drinking more. So I plan on replacing all unhealthy drinks with water. What would be good for a food plan? I do not like seafood, so fish is not an option.

Thanks for all of your help!
When I say bicycle, I mean the exercise where you touch your elbow to opposite knee and then switch. You do it at a pace such that your legs make motions like you’re riding a bicycle.

Open Question: Need advise on a bit of a diet plan.

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Ok, so over the past 2 years, I’ve managed to lose 3 and a half stone (50 pounds), and I need to lose just 9 more pounds to be at my goal, but these last 5 weeks, I’ve come to a stand still when it comes to loosing weight pretty much.

I’m male and my diet is about 1700 calories a day, and I will go on the treadmill for 30 minutes 5 days a week. Usually, I’ll jog for the majority of this and maybe do between 4-8 minutes of running. This used to work fine until recently, but now, it seems to not have the same effect. Anyone have any ideas of what I could do to tweak my treadmill workout, like a routine which incorporates fast running and walking/jogging intervals, I’ve heard this works well?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

1. So, I want to lose weight. I’ve been exercising 2 times a day in 20 minute intervals. When is the best time to workout? Morning? Before Bed? After dinner? etc…

2. I have a bowflex, eliptical, and a treadmill… I usually go on the treadmill, but I usually just get sweaty. I’m not really tired afterward. What’s the best machine to work out on?

3. What’s good to eat when on a diet?

4. South Park: the Homeless episode… When the 4 kids got together, and rebuilt the bus, they sang a song to send the homeless to California. Was that song re-made? Is that a real song?
