Open Question: How many calories do you burn after a workout?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

People say that you burn calories quicker after a workout, how many calories would I continue to burn after running off 700 calories on a treadmill? I’m 5′4, 20 yrs old, male, and 135lbs

Open Question: Help with my health.

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Ok, well I’m 15, 5′3, and about 127 pounds. I don’t want to actually lose weight, but I do want to build muscle, eat healthier, and exercise regularly. I just need some help, or some advice. I happen to be a junk food junkie, sadly. I try to eat healthier, but I can’t tell what foods are good for me and which aren’t. How can I manage my portions? How big, and how much are the things I’m supposed to eat? What is a good daily workout for me? Like strength training. I have a treadmill at my house, and every weekend I take a self defense class. If you can help me, thank you so much.

Open Question: Have I torn my ACL and should I go now for an MRI or wait?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

About a week ago, my knee started hurting after running on the treadmill and doing the stairmaster at the gym. That night, as I was standing up from the sofa, I felt a pop in my knee and almost fell over. I couldn’t hardly walk after that, or the next morning. I went to see my doctor and he thinks I may have torn my ACL and menicus, but he wasn’t sure due to all the swelling in and around my knee. He gave me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and told me to come back in two weeks. Since then, the swelling has gone down and I can almost walk normally. However, I keep getting shooting pains in my knee and muscle twitches and cramps in my thigh and calf. I’ve also had a burning sensation in my knee and it sometimes feels a little wobbly. Should I wait another 2 weeks to schedule an appointment with him to see if I need an MRI, or should I just go back now? I’m really active, workout 5-6 days a week at the gym. I love to run and the thought of not being able to work out is killing me. He did tell me I could swim. I guess I just want to get whatever this is taken care of as soon as possible. Will it be okay to wait and just swim for the next two weeks? Does it sound like I’ve torn my ACL? I should probably add that it only hurts now if I’m going down stairs (doesn’t really hurt going up stairs) or doing something like bending it to get in or out of my car. Also, it pops alot when I go to stand up, and it sometimes feels like it might give out on me. It’s usually either that, or it feels like it’s hyperextending too much when I try to straighten it.

Open Question: Should I buy a treadmill an elliptical cross trainer?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I’m about to start my personal workout plan for a whole year.

I’ve divided it into Cardio and Body Building.
By Cardio I aim for burning fats and being able to run for a long time…

I’m currently confused on whether to buy a treadmill, or an “elliptical cross trainer”?

Open Question: What is an awesome machine for cardio, recumbent bike, elliptical, rower or ????

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

What is a good machine for cardio? I know the elliptical or treadmill is best , but I only have a budget of $400.00 and you can not get a decent elliptical or treadmill for that kind of money (or can I???). I used to have an upright stationary bike but man it was a killer on my crotch (sorry for the vulgarity, but it’s the truth!!!) so that is the reason why I am looking into a either a recumbent bike or a rower. What’s the best? Can you get a decent workout from a recumbent? When I ride the bike I usually put it on the hardest setting to maximize my workout, because I am not happy until I am sweating. Am I getting as good of a workout when I put it on the hardest setting as I would if I was using an elliptical? I used to ride both at the gym I used to workout at. When I would ride the elliptical it was easy and my heart rate would get up there and I would sweat but it wasn’t as hard as when I rode the bike because I would put it on the hardest setting and I would have to really work when I was riding the bike and my heart rate was higher and I was breathing harder than when I was on the elliptical so is the elliptical really better? And would I get a good workout from a recumbent as I did from a regular upright stationary bike? Or is a rower better? If you have any suggestions on what product I should use feel free to direct me.
